Pinswap 2021 (50 years) & Cloisonné Enamel

2021 marks 50 years of the Jewellers and Metalsmith Group of Queensland (JMGQ). As a member I participated in the 2021 ’50 Pins for 50 Years’ display and pinswap.

I was assigned the year 1996 and was asked to create something that reflected that year or inspired me.

Ack Ack’ – 1996 made of copper, enamel, cloisonné wire, brass and silver brooch pin.

My inspiration: As a youngster in the 90s, movies were huge in my life. The iconic movie ‘Mars Attacks’ was released in 1996. This movie started my love of Tim Burton’s style and quirky films.

This was also my first time experimenting with cloisonné wire and enamelling. It was great to see the design from the beginning in the wire, then fun to play with the enamel colours as they layered up to the top of the wires.

After the display, the pins were shuffled and sent out to random members. This is the pin I received:

1997 by Saskia Levy inspired by Dolly the sheep.
